The vocabulary you need

• Derivative: options derive their value from another asset, such as a stock or index.
• Call and put: a call gives you the right to buy at a set price by a set date; a put gives you the right to sell.
• Strike price and expiration: the predetermined price, and the last date the contract can be exercised.
• Premium: the price of the contract, driven by the underlying price, time to expiry and volatility.
